What Exactly is a vacuum prosthesis?
I’m so glad you asked! A vacuum, or suction fit is achieved by making a replica of your very own head using plaster to make a mold. The mold is then used by master craftsmen/women to make a silicone “second skin” or cap. Once the cap is placed on your head, the inside air escapes and the cap creates a gentle suction that grips your skin and will not be released until you break the suction with your finger. You will never have to use tape, clips, or glue again!
But aren’t vacuum wigs hot to wear?
Thankfully, your Freedom wig’s silicone cap is breathable, and adjusts to match the exact temperature of your body. Another advantage of the newest generation of Freedom Wigs’ vacuum hairpieces (Freedom II Cap) is that they have much better heat dissipation due to an advanced silicone structure making them vapor permeable. Vapor and heat can actually evaporate right through the cap! Realistically, though, it will most likely add a slight level of additional heat since it is like an extra layer of skin on your head. Perhaps like wearing a straw hat, except this one won’t blow away and is not itchy!
How long should I expect the Freedom hairpiece to last?
On average, a Freedom hairpiece will last between 3-5 years if properly cared for and maintained. It really depends on your daily maintenance, life style, and thoughtfulness towards your hair. It is easy to forget your hair is there, but remember that excessive mechanical damage will occur if hair is over brushed, over heated, twirled or played with, tight hats or elastics worn, etc. The number one cause of mechanical damage to Freedom hairpieces is sleeping in your hair!
What is unprocessed European hair?
Unprocessed human hair (at times called virgin) is hair that has never been permed, treated, colored, or processed by chemicals. It is hair that has been carefully cut off from the original grower into a ponytail.
Although unprocessed hair can be of any ethnic origin, the best quality hair used in making wigs comes from Europe, or European heritage. This is the most expensive, and most sought after hair because of its soft texture, and also because it is in such short supply. This type of hair is simply not available in large quantities.
Freedom Hair is made from 100% healthy, virgin, human hair of European origin. All of the cuticle layers are intact and facing the same direction which make the hair look and move like natural, growing hair.
What if I need a repair?
Eventually you will need repairs to your hair. Your piece will be sent back to the workshop in New Zealand where the old silicone will be removed, and new hair re-implanted into thinning areas. The metal stays, or reinforcement strips, will be repaired as well and a new coat of silicone will be added. These repairs will make your wig look brand “new” again as well as greatly extending its life span.
How will I know when it is time to repair my hair?
Depending on how well you take care of your hair, repairs are usually needed sometime between 18 months and 2 years of receiving your hairpiece. You might begin to see some hair loss in certain areas that receive more wear, or tears beginning to form on the silicone base. Repairs will only cost a fraction of the original price, and your hair will look brand new again!
Are Freedom hairpieces a good choice for children? Even boys?
Yes, yes, yes again! The vacuum seal on this hairpiece allows for girls, boys, even men to be all that they can be! Tree climbing, swimming, gymnastics, you name it, they can do it. And since the latest hair styles have the slightly grown out look, boys, teens, and men look very natural wearing them.
Can my vacuum piece be colored?
Yes, your hairpiece can be both high-lighted and low-lighted, as well as all-over colored by a professional stylist/colorist..
Can I sleep in my Freedom Wig?
I do not recommend you sleep in your wig. I truly want you to look fabulous as long as possible before repairs have to be made. Lying on your hair every day will cause mechanical breakage over time. Having a sleepover with your girlfriends? Having a baby at the hospital (like me!)? No problem, wear it. Just please don’t get into the habit of it. Your prosthesis will thank you.
Can I really swim in a Freedom Wig?
Yes, yes, yes! Your hairpiece will move and look very “natural” after getting wet at the pool or beach. The suction of the vacuum fit will not budge in water. Because of the color matching of your scalp to the color of the hair’s cap, your hair will really look like its growing from your head.
Who will style my Freedom Hair?
I have the names of many experienced professional hair stylist throughout the country that I can refer you to OR you can use a stylist you like and trust. If you choose to use your own stylist, I can provide tips to ensure you receive the best possible cut. Cutting and styling a vacuum piece requires a slightly more conservative, skilled approach.
Is there a warranty on a Freedom Hairpiece?
Yes, Freedom Hair provides a 1-year warranty on workmanship. The warranty does not include mechanical breakage, which is breakage that occurs due to improper use or care..
